Interview with
"
Malcolm Ferreira"
Rhapsody's is celebrating our 10 year anniversary this year, what has been your greatest moment in the past 10 years?Besides, surviving the army....
The birth of my beautiful li’l niece, Clare... Oh, and seeing a Chinese dude put contact lenses in!!! Best 4 days of my life.
We have gone from strength and have recently grown to 13 stores nationwide. How much has your waistband grown in the last 10 years?
It hasn’t, the rest of my body has been shrinking, a Benjamin Button thyroid thing.... Very curious!! (And some parts, only because it was VERY cold)
Rhapsody's was born here in Pretoria, where were you born?
The little company of Mary hospital in Jhb, I personally think she had little company due to her halitosis.
Do you consider yourself a Sous Chef or braai kind of guy?
Not really, I’m more a Virgo on the cusp of Libra kinda guy.... Although I have been known to get soused at a braai on the odd occasion.
Do you have a favourite Rhapsody’s event? Or did the Long Island eradicate all memory?
Every visit to Rhapsody’s has been a memorable (relative term) event... But I have a feeling the 1st of September will overshadow all thus far...
The Rhapsody's Calamari is well loved by many of our Patrons, what is your favourite Rhapsody's dish?
Lynn (for those who don’t know, Lynn is our marketing lady at HQ. Malcolm has a crush on her. Sweet - ed)
Do the name Verve Clique, Moet and Dom mean anything to you? Besides being tools to ply the pretty ladies with
Jy Moet Dom wees om in die Verve Clique te wees... Klomp snobs!!!
Rhapsody’s chocolate brownies and ice cream have become an institution, what’s your favourite Rhapsody’s dessert?
Lynn (Sigh. Poor man - ed)
Rhapsody’s is involved with the new Afrikaans musical, Liefling, which is due to be released this November. We are very excited to be supporting a Proudly South African production. What are your thoughts on the South African movie industry?
I think we have phenomenal talent both in front and behind the camera, as well incredible writers. However I believe performers are exploited and we don’t back our own as much as we should. Perfect example - using an overseas artist to sing the world cup song.... In the words of Gary, the Tooth fairy, SIES!!! Who by the way, I’ll be cooking off against on November the 3rd at Rhapsody’s Menlyn.
One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila…………… what?
Where are my long Islands?????

Comedy Cook Off
Take the night off and join us for the Rhapsody’s Comedy Cook-Off, which is a national promotion that will be running from 1 September 2010 until 30 March 2011. Malcolm “Player 23” Ferreira will be hosting each Comedy Cook-Off and will be accompanied by another guest comedian. Book a table at a Comedy Cook-Off near you and be inspired by the funny antics of comedians such as Darren “Whackhead” Simpson, Graeme Joffe, Melt Sieberhagen and Chris Forrest. Tickets are being sold at R250.00 per person which includes the comedy cook-off show and a 2-course dinner. Book your table with Cindy on 012-348 4101.
Remember… it may be a laugh but our food is serious.
Rhapsody’s Woodhill recently offered up their kitchen to host a photoshoot for the Rhapsody’s Comedy Cook-Off. Needless to say, it was HOT in the kitchen. Take a look at some of the results. What more can we possibly say about our dear Player 23? We don’t think the other comedians / chefs stand a chickens’ chance in this kitchen! Poor chicken, he does not even have a name yet. Send us an e-mail to info@rhapsodys.co.za with your idea for a good chicken name and you may (or may not) win a prize!

Rhapsodizing the Community
Belles of the Ball
These exceptional ladies are involved in numerous charity projects during the year, one of them being Bramely Children’s Home in Groenkloof. Every year the ladies put together a show stopper of an event on the 17th of September at Super Sport Park. This year Rhapsody’s will be there when the “Rhapsody’s Belle of the Ball” will be announced! Kurt Darren will be performing at this event.

The Association for Autism
The Association for Autism provides services to all persons with autism. The vision of AFA is to develop an understanding and provide information so that individuals with autism (and their families) can receive valuable support as they need it. Similar to a person with a visual impairment using a walking stick as an assistive device, a person with autism requires another person to support them with their needs. A high number of qualified staff are required to provide care and education to the disabled individuals, making autism an expensive disability to manage. Ongoing support and education is key to allowing the person with autism to achieve their full potential.
There is presently no known cure for autism and the prevalence is increasing worldwide each year.
For more information on autism, click on www.autismassociation.org or call one of our representatives on 012-993 4628. Should you be interested in joining the Association for Autism, we invite you to contact our offices for further details.
Together, we can make a difference by understanding autism.

We’ve been telling our valued patrons that Rhapsody’s is THE place to be seen. Case in point was this past month where an old army friend of Paul Anthony, Kevin Abraham, noticed our Paul Anthony poster on the Rhapsody’s website. Kevin, also an avid Rhapsody’s patron, contacted our marketing department and requested contact information for Paul Anthony. Our ever-vigilant, marketing lady, Lynn contacted Paul Anthony with Kevin’s detail, only to be told that these two guys have been looking for each other for years! We are very pleased to have played a role in the getting these two long-lost friends back in touch. Stick with us, we’ll either make you famous or infamous – whichever comes first. |
